Eastwood 28 Inch HD Pneumatic Planishing Hammer (74164)
A stand-mounted pneumatic planishing hammer with a deep 28-inch throat, foot-pedal control and eight radius anvils. It smooths weld seams, takes the lumps out of shaped panels and puts a consistent crown in sheet metal with far less effort than hand planishing.
The heavy single-piece steel frame keeps flex down across 28 inches of reach. Hammer speed adjusts from 1,800 to 4,600 blows per minute, and the foot pedal leaves both hands free to guide the panel. Capacity is 16-gauge mild steel, 14-gauge aluminum and 18-gauge stainless, enough for full-size body panels as well as patch work. The eight anvils (3/4, 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 14.5 and 36 inch radius) are 40mm diameter, held by an O-ring for quick changes, and live in a storage tray on the stand.
It runs on 80 to 120 psi, and Eastwood recommends a compressor that can sustain at least 4 CFM at 90 psi. Assembled it measures 35 x 24 x 60 inches with a 47.5-inch working height and weighs 83.8 lb. The stand, foot pedal, air hose, fittings and mounting hardware are included, and it carries a 1-year Eastwood warranty.
If your panels are smaller and 18-gauge is enough, the 18-inch pneumatic planishing hammer (74163) does the same job in a lighter machine. The linear stretching anvil (74173) adds controlled one-direction stretching for edges and flanges. A planishing hammer is the natural companion to an English wheel, and you can see all planishing hammers at Shape The Metal.
