Eastwood 18 Inch Pneumatic Planishing Hammer (74163)
A stand-mounted pneumatic planishing hammer with an 18-inch throat, foot-pedal control and eight radius anvils. It smooths weld seams, takes the lumps out of shaped panels and puts a consistent crown in sheet metal with far less effort than hand planishing.
The rigid steel frame gives 18 inches of reach into the panel. Hammer speed adjusts from 1,800 to 4,600 blows per minute, and the foot pedal leaves both hands free to guide the panel. Capacity is 18-gauge mild steel, 16-gauge aluminum and 20-gauge stainless, which covers patch panels, door skins and motorcycle tanks. The eight anvils (3/4, 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 14.5 and 36 inch radius) are 40mm diameter, held by an O-ring for quick changes, and live in a storage tray on the stand.
It runs on 80 to 120 psi, and Eastwood recommends a compressor that can sustain at least 4 CFM at 90 psi. Assembled it measures 22 x 22 x 58 inches with a 47.5-inch working height and weighs 64.5 lb. The stand, foot pedal, air hose, fittings and mounting hardware are included, and it carries a 1-year Eastwood warranty.
For larger panels or heavier sheet, step up to the 28-inch HD pneumatic planishing hammer (74164). The linear stretching anvil (74173) adds controlled one-direction stretching for edges and flanges. A planishing hammer is the natural companion to an English wheel, and you can see all planishing hammers at Shape The Metal.
