Metal-PRO MP-PH37 Power Hammer - 37" Throat, Yoder Style Spring Drive
The MP-PH37 is a dedicated power hammer built on a Yoder style spring drive, the leaf-spring arrangement the original Yoder hammers used to shape aircraft and automotive panels. The spring loads on the upstroke and releases through the hit, so the ram lands with a dead-blow action that shrinks, stretches, and planishes without the harsh rebound of a rigid drive. Flexible drive only, no rigid mode - this machine does one job, the way those hammers did it. Soft, medium, and hard springs are included, so the drive can be matched to the gauge on the bench.
The 37" (940mm) throat is the reason to reach for this machine: roof skins, full quarter panels, and large pre-bent aero sections clear the frame with room to work, at 22.4" of throat height. Shaping mostly fenders, doors, and tanks? The MP-PH30 covers that work with a 30" throat at a lower price.
Power is a 4hp (3kW) motor on 220-volt single-phase - a third more motor than the MP-PH30, and still on a standard shop circuit. No three-phase service, no converter, no electrician. Speed is variable from 0 to 960 blows per minute on the foot pedal, with an emergency stop at your toe and a magnetic safety switch on the panel. Capacity is 14ga mild steel and 0.120" aluminum.
The frame is fabricated from 14mm (9/16") steel plate up top over a box-section base, with bronze-bushed drive shafts and grease points throughout, wide anchor-holed feet, and an adjustable back stop with roller guide for repeatable passes. The machine stands 89" tall and weighs 1,786 lbs.
The crate arrives ready to work: an extensive die package includes doming dies, a linear stretching die, round die holders plus hardened CR12 steel and nylon lower dies in radii from 3/4" all the way to 36" - worth $3,700. Quick-change tooling on a 22mm square shank means die swaps take seconds, not minutes. Before it ships, we fit US-made thumbnail shrinking dies in place of the standard set, because shrinking is where die quality shows first.
As far as we know, this is the largest single-phase power hammer you can buy new in the US - the reach of a production machine without the three-phase service a production shop needs.
