Dimple Dies

Dimple dies flare a hole in sheet metal, removing weight while the formed edge stiffens the panel — lighter and stronger in one operation. They show up everywhere from race chassis gussets and bomber seats to firewalls, instrument panels and custom brackets.

There are two main styles. Flare dies need a pre-drilled hole: drop the die in and draw it together with a draw bolt, or run it in a bench press. Punch and flare dies carry a hardened, sharpened cutting edge that punches the hole and forms the flare in one step.

Our range covers both, in single sizes and sets. US-made Pro-Tools dimple dies are CNC-machined and heat-treated, rated by Pro-Tools to 3/16" mild steel or 1/8" chromoly and backed by their lifetime warranty — available individually from 1/2" to 2-1/2" or as the 7-piece Master Set. US-made Mittler Bros. dimple die sets run from 4 to 9 pieces with a 45° flare angle, rated to 0.125" mild steel and 4130 chromoly, and their finish washer dies add raised-washer details to panels. The Woodward-Fab 13-piece set covers punch-and-flare work from 1/2" to 3", and the Baileigh 8-piece set is machined from 4140 steel.
